Scientific Research Programmes (SRPs)
The main focus of SCAR's international scientific coordination is on five Scientific Research Programs. These programs are indicative of an integrated and systems approach to various aspects of Antarctic research and serve as examples of projects/programs that might be pursued as part of the AISS program.

Report of Ice Sheet Modeling Workshop
A one-day workshop on ice sheet modeling was held at NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) on 8 January 2007. The workshop focused on identifying key scientific issues and organizational requirements for a research effort appropriate to producing a new generation of models. Specific objectives included providing GFDL and other U.S. and international modeling centers with further insight into the role they could play in the ice-sheet modeling arena, and initiating a collaborative network that could engage several groups developing largely independent models over time. The intent of the workshop was to develop interactions among glaciologists, oceanographers, and some of those involved in the successful, multi-decade effort to develop atmosphere-ocean general circulation models (AOGCMs). It is hoped that experience with the latter can inform development of comprehensive, prognostic ice-sheet representations, eventually coupled in full Earth System Models.
Workshop Report: Synthesis of Biodiversity in Victoria Land.
This invited workshop of scientists studying the Antarctic and other ecosystems, will share and synthesize research findings, assess understanding of soil biodiversity, determine effects of human impact, compare and contrast these findings to other ecosystems, and define future research needs and priorities for terrestrial habitats of Victoria Land, Antarctica.
