Carol A. Raymond is a Principal Scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the Geophysics and Planetary Geosciences Research Group, and Deputy Principal Investigator of the NASA Dawn Discovery mission to visit the main belt asteroids Vesta and Ceres, launching in June 2007, She is currently a Co-PI on the POLENET geophysical array proposed as an IPY activity, and previously led the Transantarctic Mountains Autonomous Global Positioning System Array project, supported by NSF and NASA, and investigated motions of Antarctica and surrounding plates to evaluate the dynamics of Earth’s mantle. Her current research focuses on glacial isostasy of the Antarctic lithosphere and ice sheet mass balance, the geophysical evolution of Mars and protoplanets Vesta and Ceres, and the derivation of time-varying terrestrial magnetic fields from satellite magnetometer data and GPS observables. Dr. Raymond has served on numerous strategic planning and oversight committees, notably NASA’s Earth Science Vision Steering Group, and is currently serving as a member of the UNAVCO Polar Networks Science Committee.
