Douglas G. Martinson is a Doherty Senior Research Scientist and an Adjunct Professor in Earth and Environmental Sciences, Ocean and Climate Physics at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. Fields of Interest: Oceans and their role in climate; onset and termination of ice ages. The oceans, and their role in climate, are the primary focus of his research. In particular, Dr. Martinson studies the interactions of air, sea and ice in high-latitude oceans and investigates how these interactions govern the distribution of sea ice and how changes in sea-ice cover can affect the world's deep-ocean circulation and global climate. Dr. Martinson’s research explores the various processes involved in air-sea-ice interaction to determine the conditions that may perturb this delicately balanced system.
